The Ministry of Education has expressed appreciation for the ongoing support provided by Plan International Malawi in enhancing the country’s education sector.
During a strategic meeting held at the ministry's headquarters at Capital Hill, Lilongwe, on Tuesday, the Secretary for Education, Associate Prof. Mangani Chilala Katundu, commended the organization for its significant contributions. The meeting focused on strengthening the collaboration between the Ministry and Plan International to further improve the quality of education in Malawi.

“Plan International Malawi has proven to be a valuable partner in our mission to uplift education in the country. Today's discussions have reinforced our partnership. Plan Malawi is actively involved in financial and technical support, including infrastructure development, which helps create a better learning environment through the construction and upgrading of schools," Prof. Katundu stated.

He further highlighted the organization's efforts in supporting teacher education by enhancing their skills and capacities to deliver high-quality education. Plan Malawi also provides scholarships and bursaries, ensuring that deserving students have access to educational opportunities.

In addition, Prof. Katundu acknowledged Plan International Malawi's role in resource mobilization, which has helped bridge funding gaps, ensuring the sustainability of educational initiatives in line with government efforts. These contributions, he noted, are crucial in the achievement of national education goals, including those set out in the Malawi 2063 vision.

The Secretary also appreciated Plan Malawi’s involvement in the celebrations for World Teachers' Day this year. He said their support underscores the institution’s dedication to recognizing and empowering teachers. The theme for this year’s celebration, "Valuing Teacher Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education," aligns closely with Plan International’s mission of promoting quality education.

Mwape Malumbi, Plan International Malawi's Country Director, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to continue supporting the education sector.

“We are delighted that our contributions towards improving education in Malawi are being acknowledged by the government. Our partnership with the Ministry of Education is indeed creating a positive impact,” said Malumbi.

She added, “We are particularly excited to see the rollout of tablet-based learning at the national level in primary schools, which will help embrace digital learning across the country.”

The Ministry and Plan International Malawi aim to continue working together to drive positive change and achieve lasting improvements in Malawi’s education system.
