Andrés Iniesta, the legendary Spanish midfielder and Barcelona icon, is set to announce his retirement from professional football at the age of 40.
Widely regarded as one of the most influential midfielders in the sport's history, Iniesta will make his formal announcement at a ceremony on October 8.
A graduate of Barcelona's esteemed La Masia academy, Iniesta made 674 appearances for the senior team, scoring 57 goals and providing 135 assists. His time at Barcelona was marked by remarkable success, with the midfielder winning a total of 32 trophies, including nine La Liga titles, four UEFA Champions League titles, and six Copa del Rey titles.
On the international front, Iniesta earned 131 caps for Spain and is best remembered for scoring the winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final against the Netherlands in South Africa. He also played a crucial role in Spain's victories in the European Championships in 2008 and 2012, being named Player of the Tournament in the latter.
Fondly known as "Don Andrés," Iniesta has contributed 14 goals and 30 assists in international play. After concluding his 22-year career with Barcelona, he joined Vissel Kobe in Japan, where he played 134 matches, scoring 26 goals and assisting 25 times.
Following his tenure in Japan, Iniesta spent one year with UAE-based Emirates, making 23 appearances for the club.
